A Natural Satellite
This mixed-media exhibit functioned as a healing space within a room echoing wide-open spaces and functioning as medicine for me. I’ve been looking at healing, memories, relations and ritual in practice with a dream-like future focus.
I am considering how I might exist among the ruins that I inhabit; that we all share, as well as the possibilities of what we might manifest together.
I’m working through new systems of making, while in relationships with lineages of my family, ancestors, spirit, and elements of the land. Developing methodologies that integrate intuition, ritual and incantation as a practice is something that has been essential to this body of work, especially because I’m still evolving the permission to do so. I’m working with the archetype featured in the neon piece as a navigating guide, divinely counseled.
I’m interested in the ways we preserve and fortify as well as what might induce erosion or decay. I’m interested in the weight of belonging, of heritage, of unlearning and of acceptance. In the fact that the ways in which we are in relationship with natural resources speak to power dynamics. The ways we are in relationship with our ancestors also speak to different possibilities of relating to the land, its histories, and the ways power dynamics are shaping its future.
Both seeking the light and searching for grounding.
